Cicadas 2024 New York. A rare double brood of cicadas will emerge from the soil at the same time, the first time such a thing has happened since 1803. This spring, for the first time since 1803, two cicada groups known as brood xix, or the great southern brood, and brood xiii, or the northern illinois brood, are set to appear.

Here’s where you can find them this year. Periodical cicadas aren’t present every spring, but when they do emerge, they come in loud, buzzing hordes.
